An entrepreneur, attorney, and new mother, our founder found herself dreaming of a better way to do
business.  "I had an urge to do something personally to make things better, not just tell others how they
should do it, but try to do things greener, cleaner, better, myself.  Our founder comes from a long line of
artists, activists and entrepreneurs.  As an attorney, she was an advocate for social justice and environmental
stewardship.  The original mission: to make healthy products that even the most finicky Organic
Mother can trust, in a way that respects the generations to come.  We recognise and accept our
obligation to operate our busy-ness in a way that improves and gives back to the Earth that sustains us all.

Trillium Herbal Company, and Trillium Organics have been on the leading edge of the organic skin care
revolution since 1994.   In 1998, after four years of ground level product formulation and person to person
product testing, Organic Body Polish became the first salt scrub to be formulated and packaged for home
use. The "Body Polish Sensation" captured the imagination of bathers everywhere. Today,  Trillium Organics
products can be found in Finer Health Food Stores, Wellness Centers, Detox Studios and therapeutic Health

The process is the purpose. . .

We believe that the process is the most influential contribution to the therapeutic value of any natural
substance.  In our quest to find the most therapeutic and impeccable ingredients, we have discoverer that the
process by which each ingredient is created leaves it's mark .   We work exclusively with the best quality,
certified organic cold pressed oils,  therapeutic grade essential oils and certified organic botanicals.   It is our
chosen mission to devise effective ways to get authentically organic,  therapeutically potent ingredients onto
the skin and into body without adding anything synthetic, standardized or otherwise compromised. We put
each new formulation through rigorous challenge testing with real human testers.  Our testers are those
lucky staffers, friends and family who are honest enough to give us real in depth feedback.  We emerge with
innovative products that are green, healthy and effective.


Our Ode to the Wise Women, to the Midwives. . .

Trillium Herbal Company was named  as a tribute to the Midwives who taught me the womanly art of
Midwifery, and attended the underwater home birth of my first child, Zephyr Elizabeth.   These were Wise
Women as I had only imagined in another era long passed.  These women wove the magical and therapeutic
stories of herbs, and powerful mothering options and choices.  As they always attended birth with an
apprentice, they always numbered three. They called their practice, Trillium Birthing Care, named for the
"birthroot", these women were some of the first to open my eyes to a world of herbal medicine, where
caring for our children starts with caring for our Mother Earth.  From Gaia,  the Goddess of the
Earth, flows the milk that sustains us throughout our entire lives.    It was for the midwives, that I named the
company Trillium Herbal Company.

The Triskellion, and the circle of Life. . .

The Trillium Symbol came through our creative process about one year after the company was created.  I saw
the spirals first in a photo of a temple to Brigid from Druidic Ireland.  The Triple spiral is sacred within
Goddess lore.  It represents the three aspects of feminine life.  The spirals show our movement through time,
as maiden, mother, and crone.  I added the outer circle to represent the eternal circle of life.
At Trillium we are dedicated equally to both the timely and the timeless   We are eternally focused on
enhancing the experience of being in your own skin whether your find yourself a maiden, mother or crone;
boy, man or elder.   We are also dedicated to the eternal circle of life.  We consider it our sacred privilege
and duty to operate our enterprise in a beneficial, green, sustainable, Health affirming manner.  We want our
footprint on the earth to be light, and the mark we leave to be beautiful and positive.  To that end, we
model our company structures and systems on the Natural Step.  We are certified Organic by the Organic
Crop Improvement Association (OCIA), and we are an active member of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics,
the Organic Consumers Association.

We are signers, supporters and zealots for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.

The principals we have been guided by from our inception, Purity Wholeness and Balance, are mirrored in
the Campaign’s approach by putting Health First on the triple bottom line;  Health for the People, Health
for the Planet and Health for our Sustainable Endeavors.   We have our products listed on the Skin Deep
website, which rates toxicity in cosmetics.  Trillium regularly shows up as the TOP RATED and one of the
safest products in any of the categories.
